Medium-large beefsteak Tomato, originating from the Crimea in Russia. Despite some superficial similarity to Cherokee Purple, Black Krim taste completely different, having a soft, subtle and sweet character.
They fruit a lot sooner than Brandywine. In the 2007 season I planted them about two or three weeks later than Brandywine, but they are fruiting and ripening at the same time. Big, sprawley bushes need staking/caging. Fruit are quite sunscald-prone and need early protection. Otherwise they seem (so far) to be a trouble-free variety.
