WinterSeason09#
Going into Autumn, the bed is in pretty good shape despite being very, very dry from the drought. Still plenty of organic content due to the good composting at the start of the SummerSeason09 for Squashes (and, as it turned out, Cabbages.) Preparing the bed for Winter was a doddle -- took half an hour with a rake -- didn't even bother to turn weeds in, as there really weren't any courtesy of the shading by the Squashes.
- 3-May-09
- Remainder planted to 60 (approx.) normal garlic bought from P&P -- not in very good condition, but at least some bulbs sprouting. Then a stretch of OfirOnion direct sown; remainder of the bed sown to CaledonGlobeOnion.
- 25-Apr-09
- N end pl. to ElephantGarlic 28-Apr-09 -- mostly smaller bulbils harvested from the roots of last year's crop. No special prep -- no compost available with the Summer's drought, but the bed still seems to have some compost (though old!) left over from the Summer prep.
