How Permaculture Design informs all we do at Braamekraal.
Over time we have found that the most important and effective aspects of permaculture thinking result in design elements that end-up being quite subtle -- often almost to the point of invisibility.
You can't see the buried pipe that carry grey-water to the Banana Circle; you can't see that it is a separate piece of infrastructure to the black-water (sewage) infrastructure. You are unlikely to notice that the house is strategically placed above a pond for protection from a likely fire vector.

- Catch and Store Energy
- Obtain a Yield
- Apply Self-regulation and Accept Feedback
- Use and Value Renewable Resources and Services
- Produce No Waste
- Design from Patterns to Details
- Integrate Rather than Segregate
- Use Small and Slow Solutions
- Use and Value Diversity
- Use Edges and Value the Marginal
- Creatively Use and Respond to Change
The following pages focus on select pieces of our design, the requirements, constraints and thinking behind them, and some of the mistakes made along the way.
